How To Select Patio Chairs

Things To Consider When Choosing The Perfect Patio Chairs

If you are not quite sure where to start and you need some ideas, the internet and magazines are great tools for you to use. By flipping through a magazine or two you can find pictures of chairs and styles that you like and the styles that you don’t really care for, helping to narrow your search. The internet is also a great tool. You can get a lot of ideas without even leaving your home. A little research will help save time when you go out to purchase your patio chairs.

Purchasing a full patio set makes this decision fairly easy. But, if you prefer to mix and match and pick your pieces individually there are a few key points you should consider.

1. Your style and taste.

Do you like traditional or contemporary? Would you like your chairs to make a statement or blend in with the surroundings? Should they have bold colors or neutral colors?

2. What is the current decor in your existing outdoor space?

What material would work best with your style? Do you want to combine types? Combining wicker with either iron or wood can result in a beautiful and quite pleasing design. Patio chairs are also available in several types of stone, including marble and granite. These types of chairs withstand the elements better than some of the other materials available. The downside to these chairs is that they are quite heavy and if you want to rearrange your furniture, they can be difficult to move.

3. Do you have a garden or pool where chairs are also needed?

If you have a table and chairs for dining, you might need to add some matching lounge chairs by the pool. You might also want to think about adding a couple of extra chairs or a bench in your garden area.

4. What kind of surface are your chairs going to be sitting on?

If you have a deck or a patio made from stones or pavers you should be able to choose from any type of chair, metal, wood, wrought iron, or even plastic. If your outdoor living area consists of a grassy area you would need to choose something that won’t sink into the grass, such as aluminum or wicker, which are both lightweight.

5. Will you be adding other accessories?

Accessories may influence the size of chairs that will fit in your outdoor space. If you are adding or already have existing accessories, such as large plants in containers or vases, your chairs will need to be able to fit in the space without seeming cluttered or overcrowded.

6. Comfort

Chairs should be comfortable as well as welcoming for you, and inviting to your guests. You should consider if you want to add cushions for more comfort. There is a wide variety of fabrics available to choose from. Cushions are also a great way to add color and tie your outdoor living spaces together.
